Chemical and Microstructural Properties of Fly Ash and Fly Ash/Slag Activated by Waste Glass-Derived Sodium Silicate

چکیده
Sodium silicate is commonly used for activating alumina silicates to produce alkali-activated binders that can compete with conventional Portland cement in concrete. However, the cost and emissions related activators hinder use of materials industry. The novel, waste-based have been developed last years, using Si-rich waste streams. Processing glass cullet not only reduces landfill disposal but also allows production sodium alkali activation. In this article, chemical microstructural properties neat fly ash blended 60 ash/40 slag pastes activated by produced from were studied compared equivalent ones commercially available hydroxide solutions. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled energy dispersive (EDX) determine microstructure composition gel phase. Findings confirmed processed showed comparable activators.

Microstructural Characteristics of Geopolymers Based on Alkali-Activated Fly Ash
Aluminosilicate geopolymers with a high silica molar ratio have been prepared by mixing Croatian coal-ash (ASTM Class F) and sodium silicate solution (water glass, technical grade). The samples were cured at 85 °C for 8 h and 24 h in different experimental conditions. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS) have been use...
متن کاملChemical Reaction of Fly Ash
In a previous paper, Brouwers and Van Eijk [1] presented a theoretical study on the dissolution (reaction) of pulverised powder coal fly ash. This fly ash was modelled as hollow spheres, and a shrinking core model was derived for these hollow spheres that contain two regions (an outer hull and an inner region). The obtained analytical equations were applied to the dissolution experiments by Pie...
متن کاملToxicity mitigation and solidification of municipal solid waste incinerator fly ash using alkaline activated coal ash.
Municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration is a common and effective practice to reduce the volume of solid waste in urban areas. However, the byproduct of this process is a fly ash (IFA), which contains large quantities of toxic contaminants. The purpose of this research study was to analyze the chemical, physical and mechanical behaviors resulting from the gradual introduction of IFA to an alka...
متن کاملIdentifying Glass Compositions in Fly Ash
In this study, four Class F fly ashes were studied with a scanning electron microscope; the glassy phases were identified and their compositions quantified using point compositional analysis with k-means clustering and multispectral image analysis. The results showed that while the bulk oxide contents of the fly ashes were different, the four fly ashes had somewhat similar glassy phase composit...
